Adventists in United Kingdom Highlight Music in Mission

Some 350 musicians across the United Kingdom met January 26 to launch the Adventist Musicians Association, sponsored by the music ministries of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Trans-European region and the church’s British Union Conference.

The main objective of the association is to promote and develop excellence in music for the support and mission of the Adventist Church, says Miroslav Pujic, music ministries coordinator for the church in the Trans-European region and founder of the association. “The ideals of AMA are simple,” he says. “We want to provide exposure of Adventist arts in local, national, and international arenas, and to encourage young practitioners, giving them a platform for development in their areas of expertise. We also want to create a mentoring role for established music ministries.”

Bertil Wiklander, president of the church’s Trans-European Division, spoke at the launch, saying that music is a gift of God to human beings, and a “language that will touch our deepest feelings.”  He welcomed the new initiative, telling the group that the Adventist Church “cannot ignore the great importance of music in its life and mission.”
