In the wake of the African Nations Championship (CHAN), more than 15,000 books and brochures were distributed at the esplanade of the Yaoundé Omnisports Stadium on Wednesday, January 20th, 2021.
The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Cameroon took the opportunity to share the missionary book, Hope beyond Tomorrow by Pastor Mark Finley, during an African football festival held from January 16th to February 7th in Cameroon.
The Adventist Church's evangelism department in Cameroon organized teams of volunteers wearing yellow t-shirts with the slogan "I Will Go'' stamped on the chest and "Reach the World'' on the back. Pasteur Assembe Valère, President of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Cameroon, and Pastor Jean Pourrat Meting, responsible for Evangelization, led the 150 volunteers who signed up. The heads of departments and the staff of the Cameroon Union Mission were also involved in this operation, alongside local church members in Yaoundé.
According to one of the participants, their main challenge was to "overcome fear, shyness and approach strangers crazy about football and thirsty to tread the stadium." With tact and perseverance, the volunteers attempted to arouse a thirst for reading within a short time. The flame was set.
“There are 11 people who have asked to know a little more about the faith of Seventh-day Adventists’’, said Pastor Jean Pourrat Meting. A couple of days later, on Sunday, January 24th, the volunteers got back to work and began distributing magazines of Adventist World, in addition to the Hope Beyond Tomorrow book. Further distribution periods were scheduled until the end of the competition on February 7th. In times like this, marked by the health crisis, the Church does not want to miss any opportunity to preach the message.
