Participants of Follow, a Seventh-day Adventist Church discipleship event in northern Bahia, Brazil, distributed approximately 900 kilograms (0.99 US tons) of bread in five communities in Capim Grosso on August 1, 2026.

The delivery mobilized attendees and pastors working in the region. Participants divided themselves among the communities to distribute food and contact local families.

The initiative developed from work already being done by Júnior Benevides, a local Adventist pastor, who was responsible for collecting bread and sending it to local churches. During the Follow organization meetings, he presented a proposal to expand the distribution and involve congress participants.

“For some time now, I have been collecting bread at Transpão and sending it to local churches. During a Follow organizational meeting, I shared the idea with the other pastors, and they all agreed to participate. The action awakened a sense of belonging and joy in serving God, bringing both physical and spiritual bread to the communities,” says Benevides.

Discipleship in practice

The donation was part of the service project promoted during Follow. In addition to praise, worship, and reflection held during the congress, participants were encouraged to develop activities focused on caring for others.

For the organizers, the act demonstrated that discipleship is expressed through service and attention to the community's needs. The congress aimed to bring participants closer to residents' realities and encourage the continuation of social initiatives in local churches.

The Follow event was held simultaneously in Capim Grosso, Juazeiro, Senhor do Bonfim, and Irecê. The program brought together more than 2,700 people across the four cities and featured pastors, speakers, and musicians.
