From July 7 to 10, a daily special event during the 62nd Session of the General Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church was the Women's Meeting, a series of gatherings organized by the Women’s Ministries and the Ministerial Spouses Association. From 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and again from 2 to 4 p.m., this gathering brought together thousands of women from around the world each day for a time of celebration, spiritual renewal, mutual encouragement, and training. 

In an intensive and powerful format, the meetings were designed to reflect the depth of women's spiritual need and the breadth of their commitment to the church's mission today.

A Global Gathering for Women of Faith

The women's meeting is not new to the General Conference Session, but it has never before taken on such magnitude. Through this international gathering, the church affirms its growing support for women's ministry, while responding to a concrete reality: that of a global mobilization of Adventist women, increasingly visible and influential in the spheres of leadership, evangelism, training, and social action.

The women's meeting is not a secondary project or an ancillary activity. It provides a sacred and strategic framework to recognize and value the fundamental contribution of women to the life of the church.

"It is a pleasure and a privilege to be able to actively collaborate in the life of the church. Collaboration is complete when women are present in the various ministries of the church," said Suzy of the French Antilles-Guiana Union Conference. In the large America's Ballroom, the varied faces, outfits, songs, and accents reflected the cultural and linguistic diversity of the global assembly of Adventist women. Participants from Brazil, Canada, France, the French Caribbean, India, Nigeria, the Philippines, and the Pacific Islands sit side by side, ready to listen, sing, pray, and share.

A Program Designed for Spiritual Uplift

Each meeting opens with a dynamic time of worship, led by choirs from different continents. Seminars follow, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, presented by women leaders: pastors, teachers, communicators, and union leaders.

"Everything was carefully and meticulously thought out," said a participant from India.

The speakers emphasized that God's call is universal and touches women from all walks of life.

Themes of the meetings are varied but all linked by a common thread: the feminine vocation in the church and in the world. They discuss biblical leadership, spiritual life, personal balance, resilience in the face of trials, intergenerational relationships, and missionary challenges.

"We leave with a refreshed faith and a heart ready to act," said a participant from Africa. "It's not just a talk that feels good in the moment. These are powerful truths that resonate with our daily struggles and our deepest hopes. Here, we are seen, heard, and understood.”

Music, the beating heart of the meeting

It's impossible to talk about the women's meeting without mentioning the role of music in the program. It accompanies the highlights, opens hearts, and creates an instant communion between participants.

"The music here isn't there to distract, but rather to connect us with God. It's a sung prayer, a universal language that touches the heart. Even when words escape us, His presence reaches us," one of the singers explained.

Songs in various languages were sung at each day's meetings, thrilling the congregation, some with tears in their eyes, others with raised hands.

Shared Challenges, Common Hope

Beyond the moments of worship, what most impresses the participants is the shared fellowship. Every testimony, encounter, and exchange in the hallways or at the end of each meeting becomes an opportunity to forge deep bonds.

"Being with so many Adventist women in one place is wonderful, and I've never felt so connected to the greater church family. It's an event not to be missed," confided a participant from Martinique. "I needed this gathering. I'm invigorated!"

Another attendee, Sarah, 17, from Miami, Florida, reflected on the meetings providing a space for women in a bustling world "We don't come here to claim our place, but to remind people that we have a mission and a vision."

As the women's meeting sessions concluded this Thursday, July 10, one thing is certain: Adventist women aren't leaving with just lecture notes or souvenirs. They're leaving equipped, strengthened, and ready to shine their light wherever God sends them.
