The Adventist Development and Relief Agency will deliver approximately 80 tons of humanitarian aid products to Badakhshan Province in northern Afghanistan over the next two weeks.
Blankets, clothing, hygiene kits, kitchen utensils, and shoes will be delivered to 10,000 families living in extreme poverty in this isolated province of Afghanistan. These specific items were selected after ADRA consulted with United Nations agencies and other non-governmental organizations to identify needs and select areas not currently receiving aid. Distribution priority will be given to female-headed families and to those with many small children.
Funded by ADRA International, the project is being implemented by ADRA’s Central Asia regional office and ADRA Tajikistan.
Badakhshan is the most northeastern province of Afghanistan and includes the portion that extends between Pakistan and Tajikistan toward China. The majority of people in this province are shepherds and small farmers.
Poverty is widespread due to several factors, including a shortfall of rain for the past three years and minimal level land suitable for growing crops in the mountainous terrain.
