The Adventist Development and Relief Agency is providing emergency relief to those devastated last week by the eruption of the Nyiragongo volcano near Goma, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Lava flows from the eruption caused widespread damage in Goma, resulting in more than 450,000 people fleeing into the countryside and crossing into Rwanda. ADRA Rwanda has met with representatives from other non-governmental organizations to ensure a coordinated response to this crisis. As a result, ADRA Rwanda has dispatched trucks with emergency supplies to the border area. Basic items include bedding and tents for shelter. ADRA’s assessment team continues to work in the Goma area to help as many people as possible.
