During its spring 2002 meeting, the Board of Directors for the Adventist Development and Relief Agency International appointed Dr. Ron Mataya as director of health.

The Board of Directors for the Adventist Development and Relief Agency International, at its 2002 spring meeting, appointed Dr. Ron Mataya as the agency’s director of health. He succeeds Dr. Jay Edison, who has retired.

Mataya has served for three years as associate director of health and reproductive health specialist at ADRA International. Previously, he served as the medical director for Blantyre Adventist Hospital in Blantyre, Malawi.

Mataya plans to continue the development of a service-oriented team that provides technical support for programs initiated by ADRA’s field offices.

In 2001, he coordinated professional in-service training related to reproductive health for a variety of ADRA country offices, including Kenya, Uganda, Somalia, and the southern part of Sudan. During 2002 he conducted similar workshops focused on topics related to nurse midwives, safe motherhood, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in Uganda, Armenia, and Azerbaijan.

A graduate of West Visayas State University in the Philippines, Mataya completed a four-year residency program in obstetrics and gynecology at Taiwan Adventist Hospital in Taipei, Taiwan.
