Three churches in the Korean Union—Wolgok, Daegu International, and Wonsarang—became part of the 80 churches around the globe piloting the new “Alive in Jesus” Sabbath School curriculum for the first quarter of 2023.

Under the leadership of Pastor Kim YoungUn, Children’s Ministries director for the Korean Union Conference, these three churches are leading the pilot study, fully implementing the primary level curriculum and working with parents and the volunteer team as they provide research feedback and data.

On November 27, 2022, the Children’s Ministries of the Northern Asia-Pacific Division (NSD) provided an introductory training for all the Children’s Ministries directors of unions, conferences, and missions, as well as teachers, volunteers, and parents who are participating in the “Alive in Jesus” pilot study. 

The training was led by Raquel Arrais, NSD Children’s Ministries director, along with two guest speakers: Dr. Orathai Chureson, General Conference Children’s Ministries director, and Dr. Nina Atcheson, “Alive in Jesus” curriculum manager and senior editor. Dr. Chureson gave a message of encouragement to all the participants as they committed themselves to the task, and Dr. Atcheson introduced the philosophy and general guidelines of the curriculum. The participants were blessed by the information received and more equipped to lead the curriculum in their local churches.

The Gracelink curriculum, developed 25 years ago, will be replaced with new lessons for those 0–18 years old by 2025. This new curriculum is being developed to better assist families in discipling children and youth in this 21st century to deeply love and fully live for Jesus. We invite our members from the NSD territory to pray for the parents and volunteers as they reflect on this pilot experience and provide rich data to improve the lessons for global use.
