In response to devastating wildfires that swept through central-southern and southern Chile, particularly in the Ñuble and Biobío regions, where authorities declared a “state of catastrophe,” the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Chile has mobilized to assist those affected, with particular attention to church members who have been left homeless.

Authorities reported that the fires have burned tens of thousands of hectares and spread rapidly, severely impacting communities in the Biobío region near Concepción, including Lirquén and the municipality of Penco. As of this reporting, officials said the emergency has resulted in 19 deaths, more than 1,500 people affected, and hundreds of homes destroyed, with additional properties still being assessed.

Against this backdrop, the Adventist Church has activated several solidarity initiatives, including a call for united prayer, coordinated donation efforts, and on-the-ground humanitarian support aimed at accompanying those facing the material, emotional, and spiritual consequences of the disaster.

Solidarity aid

Church leaders reported that in Lirquén, an Adventist church building was completely destroyed by fire, and at least 20 Adventist families lost their homes. In response, the Adventist Church in Chile opened an official channel for monetary donations to help address urgent needs among affected families.

Collection centers and priority items

In addition to financial support, collection centers have been established to receive essential goods, especially bottled water, non-perishable food, granola bars, baby diapers, new underwear, personal hygiene items, and sunscreen.

ADRA Chile has also launched a donation campaign and reported that volunteers are present in affected areas, working alongside local efforts to meet immediate needs.

United in prayer

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Chile also called on its members to remain united in prayer, for control of the emergency, comfort for families who have lost loved ones and livelihoods, and protection for firefighters, brigades, and volunteers from multiple institutions who continue working to contain the fires and care for those impacted.
