Adventist Camp in Germany Evacuated

High winds and a strong storm forced the evacuation of 1,700 participants in the Friedensau Seventh-day Adventist Camporee, Germany, during the evening of July 31.

High winds and a strong storm forced the evacuation of 1,700 participants in the Friedensau Seventh-day Adventist Camporee, Germany, during the evening of July 31.  A few hundred participants were transferred into different buildings of the nearby Friedensau Adventist University campus. The majority were transported by bus to the gymnasiums of Möckern and Burg, where they were cared for by the Red Cross and the fire brigade.

Local county officials directed the evacuation. No one was seriously injured during the storm, although a number of participants were slightly injured or suffered from shock. The storm flooded part of the camp ground, and the fire brigades of Friedensau and other surrounding communities pumped water out of the most affected areas. All participants returned to the camp the following day.
