ADRA Ukraine Prepares Refugee Shelters for Winter

ADRA Ukraine provides winter aid with the support of ADRA Germany

Ukraine

The Adventist Development and Relief Agency in Ukraine (ADRA Ukraine) is preparing various emergency shelters for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the country, readying them for the pending winter with the delivery of an initial 97 tons of fuel briquettes. A refugee shelter in Bucha also received an electricity generator.

The five emergency shelters for IDPs asked ADRA Ukraine for support for the winter. The shelter in Kamianka, Cherkasy, received 32 tons of fuel oil; a shelter for the visually impaired, in a former factory in Dnipro, received 12 tons; and 20 tons went to the emergency shelter of a charitable foundation. In Lviv, in western Ukraine, the emergency shelter in Drohobych is to receive 3 tons, and the emergency shelter in Barvinok, Novyi Rozdil, will receive 30 tons of fuel. With these fuel deliveries, people should no longer be exposed to the cold, as was the case last winter due to the numerous attacks by the Russian army on the energy infrastructure.

Bucha: Power Generator for IDPs in Container Settlement

Last winter, according to ADRA Ukraine, a container settlement in Bucha, which houses around 200 IDPs, experienced frequent power outages due to attacks on critical infrastructure. Most of the residents are elderly and disabled, including bedridden people. To ensure a continuous power supply and avoid interruptions in heating and electricity, ADRA Ukraine provided the container settlement with a powerful diesel generator with a capacity of 220 kilowatts.

Winter Aid from Germany

ADRA Ukraine is providing this winter aid with the support of the Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany, Aktion Deutschland Hilft, and ADRA Germany. They want to prepare the most vulnerable population groups in Ukraine for the upcoming winter period, according to ADRA Ukraine.
