Texans to receive $80,000 in emergency supplies
The Adventist and Development and Relief Agency (ADRA), along with Adventist Community Services (ACS), is sending $80,000 in aid to Hurricane Ike victims after the storm hit the Texas coast last Saturday.
“ADRA supports ACS to respond to this new disaster as we work together to provide a measure of comfort to many families who have been deeply affected in the last 24 hours,” said Frank Teeuwen, Emergency Management Bureau Chief for ADRA International.
The hurricane hit Galveston Island, Texas before causing damage last weekend across Louisiana, Arkansas, Indiana, Missouri and Ohio.
ACS will open distribution sites to provide emergency assistance. The distribution centers distribute emergency supplies such as blankets, hygiene kits, personal care kits, and other essential items donated by ADRA.
The latest emergency aid comes less than two weeks after ADRA provided $100,000 in assistance to residents in Louisiana where Hurricane Gustav struck on August 30. Currently, disaster responders are assessing the situation to determine which communities were hardest hit.
