ADRA Helps Victims in Kherson

On the night of June 6, 2023, as a result of the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant, 14 settlements with an affected population of about 20,000 people were flooded. The water in some places rose above 10 meters. Livestock farms and cemeteries were flooded. As a result of the tragedy, many are dead, wounded, and/or missing.

A team of volunteers and Ivan Malashihin and Alexander Bily, ADRA (Adventist Development and Relief Agency) employees from the Crimean Mission, together with Alexander Novikov, the pastor of the local Adventist community, came to help in the emergency response on June 11. The ministers worked for five days in the following areas: New Kakhovka, Dnepryan, Cossack Camps, and Krynki.

ADRA volunteers purchased essential goods, participated in the preparation and distribution of humanitarian aid, and delivered food by boat. As a result, more than 500 people received food packages from the ADRA team.

The administration of Nova Kakhovka provided the volunteers with a list of necessary assistance. Needs and specific actions included:

1. Purchase and delivery of food, essentials, disinfectants, and medicines

2. Sending a team of volunteers to clear rubble and garbage

3. Assistance in the means and methods of water purification, as there is a threat of cholera

4. Psychological assistance for victims.

The ADRA team plans to continue to provide assistance to the victims and participate in the reconstruction of the devastated areas.
