Adventist News Network (ANN) is again available in French.
After French translations were paused temporarily due to resource constraints, the French-language ANN page is once again up to date.
"Making ANN articles available in French will help increase the impact of the fascinating stories we wish to share with our contemporaries,” said Philippe Leduc, general secretary of the Franco-Belgian Union. “Since not everyone has a sufficient knowledge of English, the world church fully accomplishes its mission by providing its articles beyond the English language, and I rejoice in this."
The Franco-Belgian Union has been instrumental in helping with translation, as has the use of Web Engine, a General Conference (GC) content management system.
Web Engine allows users to syndicate and translate articles hosted on other sites within the platform, making sharing news easier.
“We have been working on a syndication system to make it easier to share news across the world Church,” said Alyssa Truman, GC communication director. “It’s amazing to see that this solution has helped to provide news in a major language again.”
French is an official language in countries of the East-Central Africa, Inter-European, Inter-American, North American, South Pacific, and West-Central Africa Divisions, and is used in other regions, such as the Middle East and North Africa Union.
“As French is one of the languages spoken in multiple divisions across the globe,” said Jarrod Stackelroth, GC assistant communication director, “it is important to have it, and we are grateful for the help of the Franco-Belgian Union. If other languages would like to be represented on ANN, we would be happy to talk with Divisions or Unions to see how we can get it done and how it can be distributed.”
French joins English, Spanish, and Portuguese as a language option on ANN’s homepage.
