Boa Vista Adventist Academy, located in Roraima, Brazil, has carried out the Love in Every Strand project since 2024. The initiative collects locks of hair to make wigs for women undergoing cancer treatment in Roraima. Love in Every Strand involves students, school staff, families, and the school community.
Love in Every Strand seeks to provide opportunities for students to help others while contributing to raising the self-esteem and well-being of women undergoing treatment who often lack the financial means to purchase a natural hair wig.
Sandro Alves, Boa Vista Adventist Academy principal, said the initiative was created to benefit both the women who receive wigs and the people involved in the campaign.
"It is not just an action, but an opportunity to show our students how we can practice empathy with others," Alves said. He also praised the involvement of the broader school community and students' willingness to participate.
For Laura Sofia, a fifth-grade student at Boa Vista Academy, participating in the campaign was a special experience. "I was very happy with my experience. I found out that my hair will be used to make wigs for the people who need it most. My dear grandmother also had cancer, so she, too, needed hair donations. I am very happy with the school's initiative to help others who are in need," she said.
About 100 people donated hair for wigs.
Love in Every Strand delivered the donated hair during a ceremony at the Legislative Assembly of Roraima. Students and school representatives participated.
