It’s their church too and they should have a part in it—that’s long been the view of Pastor Jan Paulsen, president of the worldwide Seventh-day Adventist Church. “They” are the young people that make up a reported 70 percent of the 14.5 million-strong church. Pastor Paulsen will, on March 15, continue to reach across the generation gap and talk to young people at Oakwood College, an Adventist institution of higher education.
This is the sixth live “Let’s Talk” broadcast, part of a series of unscripted conversations between the world church leader and young members of the Adventist Church, this time on the Huntsville, Alabama, college campus in the United States.
“Oakwood College is thrilled to have the next ‘Let’s Talk’ session with [Pastor Paulsen] as a part of our 110-year legacy,” says Jacquelyn Gates, vice president for advancement and development. “The Lord has blessed us to have the technology to facilitate an interactive session like this. We welcome the opportunity to share with viewers around the world a little bit of ‘the Oakwood experience.’”
The broadcast will include questions from 50 young professionals as well as undergraduate and graduate Oakwood College students. Past conversations have centered on the church’s beliefs and traditions, getting more young people into church leadership and other world issues.
Oakwood alumna Stacia Dulan will host the broadcast. “I am glad to be a part of this event,” she says. “It is an important opportunity to show the students of Oakwood a real face of the church and assure them that they are a priority to the president.”
Let’s Talk Oakwood will be broadcast live in North America on March 15 at 2 p.m. CST. Check the Let’s Talk Web site, www.letstalk.adventist.org, and the Hope Channel, www.hopetv.org for broadcast schedules.
The most recent Let’s Talk broadcast was held in Sydney, Australia; earlier installments were recorded in Germany and the United States. Continuing internationally, Paulsen will travel to Brazil in April and to Cameroon and Uganda in August for similar, televised conversations with the church’s youth.
Along with the broadcasts, Paulsen’s office has set up a Let’s Talk Web site. Young people can e-mail their questions directly to the Office of the President and receive answers from church leaders at www.letstalk.adventist.org.
