Seventh-day Adventist leaders meeting in Brazil have launched a new magazine aimed at helping church members share Christianity in their communities. The magazine, called Momentos de Alegria (Moments of Happiness) in Portuguese and Momentos de Paz (Moments of Peace) in Spanish, was released during an October 30 ceremony dedicating the magazine to the church’s missionary and evangelism work.

“Our church members are going to distribute this magazine to their friends, relatives, work colleagues, and neighbors,” said Ruy Nagel, president of the Adventist Church in South America.

Two million copies of the first edition of Momentos de Alegria will be printed. “The cost of the magazine in Spanish is going to vary on the basis of the U.S. dollar according to the currency and [economic] realities of each country,” explained Marino de Oliveira, financial director of the church in South America. Estimates show the magazine could reach each person in Brazil at the cost of two-tenths of a Real (Brazilian currency). Future distribution of the magazine is also planned throughout the church’s hospitals and universities, says Adventist businessman Milton Afonso.

The launch of Momentos de Alegria took place during the second day of an annual meeting of church leaders from around South America. Leaders consider plans and hear reports of growth and challenges for the Adventist Church in the region.
