A Seventh-day Adventist pastor has been awarded for his service as a police officer in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape in South Africa. Godfrey Dlele, 32, was given two “Star of the Year” trophies for saving a man from committing suicide last November, reports the East Cape News.

While preaching at his church, Dlele was called away from the pulpit to intervene in an incident where a 54-year-old man attempted to shoot himself after he had already shot and killed his wife. Dlele was unarmed at the time and used his negotiating skills to successfully calm the man down.

Pastor Dlele, married with two children, told the newspaper that the other highlight in his career as a policeman was helping apprehend eight armed gang members who robbed a pension payout point of R3.8 million in 1996.
