Nightly crowds of up to 100,000 people continue to fill Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, where a two-week Seventh-day Adventist satellite evangelistic series has captured national attention.

Nightly crowds of up to 100,000 people continue to fill Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, where a two-week Seventh-day Adventist satellite evangelistic series has captured national attention.

“I am overwhelmed and humbled with what God is doing,” says evangelist Mark Finley, speaker for the series that began July 6. “Key political, educational and thought leaders from throughout the nation are attending. The Prime Minister, the Governor General and the Opposition Leader have all attended, as well as numerous cabinet members, parliamentarians and Supreme Court judges.”

The series has also attracted daily coverage in the national press, with newspapers carrying reports, photos, and commentary.

Along with Finley’s nightly presentation from the Bible, the programs feature local music groups and health messages.  The series is being broadcast live throughout Papua New Guinea, Australia, Africa, parts of Asia, and the United States.  Papua New Guinea’s National Radio broadcasts live from the stadium each evening and EMTV, the country’s only national television station, carries a taped replay each morning.  “We estimate that at least 1 million people here in this country are participating in the series,” says Finley.

“In my 25 years of full-time evangelism, I have never seen a moving of the Spirit of God like this, leading an entire nation to revival,” he adds.

Around Port Moresby, Adventist Church members have set up tents and shelters in their yards to accommodate people who have traveled from as far away as the Papua New Guinea highlands to attend the program, reports Royce Williams, global television director for It Is Written, one of the sponsors of the event.

“Many have come by plane, boat, bus, or on foot,” he says. “One young man walked 200 kilometers on crutches to be here.”

The series is part of an initiative called ACTS 2000, a global evangelistic effort that has included satellite events in Bucharest, Romania; Los Angeles, United States; Seoul, South Korea; and Manila, Philippines.
