More than 900 young adult delegates from five continents will meet at the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley) for what has been described as “52 hours of prayer, planning, and dynamic speaking.” Organized by the UC Berkeley Seventh-day Adventist Student Association, the meetings will run from September 13 to 16 and will focus on effective evangelism at public university campuses.

This is the first time that an Adventist event of this scale has been held at a public university in North America, according to Dr. Humberto Rasi, director of education for the Adventist Church worldwide and presenter at the event. “I believe it is a very important initiative, not only for students, but for chaplains and the church at large,” he says.

An international committee of 20 students from ten countries, including Australia, Romania, and Zimbabwe, have spearheaded planning for the event.  They have assembled a diverse array of more than 40 Adventist speakers, from neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson, to evangelist Dwight Nelson, to Adventist Review editor Dr. William Johnsson.

Organizers say that one of the event highlights will be a symposium on science and faith hosted by the Geoscience Research Institute of Loma Linda University, which will bring together scientists, philosophers and theologians in a series of panel discussions.

B2K has drawn broad support from the Adventist community; the more than 25 sponsors of the event include Andrews University, the Adventist Review, La Sierra University, Loma Linda University and Medical Center, Maranatha Volunteers International, Spectrum magazine, the Adventist Church in North America, and the Adventist Church’s General Conference.
