Jan Paulsen, president of the Seventh-day Adventist Church worldwide, addressed students and faculty of the Adventist Church’s University of Eastern Africa, Baraton, on April 26, saying that Adventist institutions will not serve their purpose unless they offer training that benefits society.

“I urge all of you to take an interest in the societies you come from because God will ask you what difference you made in them,” he said.

Paulsen said young people who begin their professional and academic careers in Christian universities stand a better chance of success in life. “When you prepare here, you prepare for life—not just for yourself and your own world,” he said.

He also said the Adventist Church invests much of its resources in educating and training young people in nearly 6,000 schools worldwide, including more than 90 colleges and universities. The worth of the investment, said Paulsen, will be judged by the graduates’ performance in improving their communities. [Photos: Ray Dabrowski/ANN]
