The death toll from an earthquake in southwestern Sumatra on June 4, measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale, continues to rise, with 64 bodies recovered in the provincial capital of Bengkulu and 39 others throughout the rest of the province. John Duroe, communication director for the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the region, says that initial reports indicate that three Adventist Churches and more than 150 homes of church members were damaged or destroyed in the quake. The initial earthquake struck at 11:29 p.m. on Sunday night and was followed by a series of strong aftershocks.
