Dominican Republic: Adventist Youth Celebrate Faith

More than 15,000 Seventh-day Adventist young people gathered in Santo Domingo June 30 for the first National Youth Congress to be held by the Adventist Church in the Dominican Republic.

More than 15,000 Seventh-day Adventist young people gathered in Santo Domingo June 30 for the first National Youth Congress held by the Adventist Church in the Dominican Republic.

“It was a day of celebration of unity and Christian fellowship,” says Leo Ranzolin, a vice president of the Adventist Church worldwide and speaker at the event.  “It was so exciting and inspiring to see 15,000 people on fire for God.”

The theme of the congress, “Jesus, We Are Your Youth,” was posted on banners and signs around the venue. The seven-hour event was held in a downtown gymnasium and included a mix of drama, music, and preaching.

Coordinators of the congress were Silvestre Gonzalez Tabar, youth ministries director for the Adventist Church in the Dominican Republic, and Bernardo Rodriguez, youth ministries director for the Church in the Inter-America region.

There are some 160,000 Adventist Church members in the Dominican Republic, which has a population of around 8.5 million people.
