The Origins Museum of Nature, a Creationist museum run by the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Galápagos Islands, has begun a major renovation project that will modernize its spaces, incorporate interactive areas, and update its exhibits. The initiative seeks to strengthen the integration of science and faith and present nature as evidence of creation.

As part of this process, on July 27, leaders from the South American Division visited the museum and toured the new teaching and research laboratory, recently inaugurated in the Galápagos Islands. The facility is managed by the Seventh-day Adventist Church in South America and is affiliated with the Geoscience Research Institute (GRI).

The planned changes include reorganizing the spaces, updating the exhibits, and adding interactive resources. The goal is to offer a more dynamic and accessible visit for people of different ages and nationalities. The new spaces dedicated to the integration of science and faith will emphasize nature as evidence of God's creativity and care.

For Matheus Wesley Rodrigues, director of the Creationist Museum in the Galápagos, the museum's greatest challenge lies in the strong historical influence of Charles Darwin on the islands. World-renowned for their connection to the development of the theory of evolution, the islands attract researchers, PhDs, and specialists in biology, geology, and natural sciences. Many of them arrive with a pre-established perspective on the origin of life.

"What at first glance seems like a challenge transforms into a great opportunity. The Origins Museum of Nature offers a space to present the creationist worldview in a respectful and scientifically grounded manner. Furthermore, it demonstrates that there is an interpretation of nature based on intelligent design and the biblical account of creation. In this way, we broaden the dialogue, encourage critical thinking, and invite visitors to explore a perspective they have often never had the opportunity to consider," said Rodrigues.

Located in one of the most geologically and biologically significant archipelagos on the planet, the Origins Museum of Nature develops educational and scientific outreach programs from the perspective of the biblical worldview. Throughout the year, visitors from around the world explore content that connects scientific knowledge with the creation narrative.

According to Rodrigues, the museum integrates different areas of science to help visitors understand how they relate to one another. This allows them to understand these areas within a broader context. "This approach sparks reflections on life, nature, and the complexity of the world, and leads many to wonder whether all of this is the result of chance or a purpose," he says.

The director adds that the tour seeks to understand each visitor's perspective and, based on that, pose questions that promote critical thinking and present the creationist worldview in a respectful and well-founded manner.

During the visit, church leaders learned about the goals of the renovation and the challenges of modernizing the space. The project aims to make the Origins Museum of Nature a leading center for educational experiences. To achieve this, it incorporates new technologies, interactive environments, and exhibits that spark interest in nature and encourage reflection on its origins.

With this renovation, the Creationist Museum in the Galápagos Islands will expand its capacity to receive visitors. Furthermore, it will strengthen its commitment to integrating scientific knowledge, Christian education, and contemplation of creation within one of the world's most iconic natural settings.
