ADRA Chile officially inaugurated a Solidarity Food Truck in Villa Alemana,Chile, in an effort to strengthen its humanitarian response capacity across the region. This milestone marks nine years of work on the Solidarity Kitchen project and is complemented by the presentation of new logistical resources acquired through the nationwide fundraising campaign "One Child, One Bed and Emergency Response."
Designed and equipped according to current Chilean food-handling regulations, the mobile kitchen can be towed and deployed to different parts of the country, expanding ADRA's ability to provide hot meals to those in need during crisis situations.
The inauguration was attended by Rodrigo Cárcamo, ADRA's regional director for South America; Mauricio Comte, national director of ADRA Chile; and Sadrach Vásquez, Emergency and Disaster Response coordinator. Representatives from the Villa Alemana Civil Society Organization, the ADRA Social Innovation Center, and regional teams also participated.
“This Food Truck is the result of years of effort, commitment, and service," Cárcamo said. "ADRA in Chile now has an extraordinary tool that strengthens emergency response and the ability to serve the most vulnerable communities with dignity and compassion."
Other Important Acquisitions
In addition to the Solidarity Food Truck, ADRA Chile presented several new logistical resources that will enhance ADRA's national emergency operations. These include two fully equipped emergency trailers, partially built at the Villa Alemana Innovation Center, with solar energy autonomy. These have been allocated to the Coquimbo and Biobío regions for transporting technical equipment during disasters.
Six regional ADRA teams have also recieved self-protection and safety kits, including uniforms, first aid kits, technology kits, suitcases, cots, and radio systems.
The agency further unveiled a 30-square-meter inflatable tent designed to function as an Administration Center for Humanitarian Management. They also noted a new Command Post for Humanitarian Management equipped with advanced technology for information management, including a satellite system, digital and analog-digital radios, with solar power backup and an electrical inverter.
ADRA Chile leaders noted that these advances were made possible through the support of the national collection campaign. The initiative strengthened the agency's operational capacity throughout the country and enabled the implementation of the National Emergency Plan, leaders say. During the ceremony, local volunteers reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing collaboration with partner organizations in enhancing disaster response in the country.
