A New Year is a New Opportunity to Invest in Good Habits for your Health

Although we are currently experiencing a time of many challenges, a new year is upon us and with it the opportunity to set new goals and objectives. A question that often comes up during this time is, ‘How will I take care of my health this year? What do I need to do to achieve my health goals?’

However, it's not uncommon to reach the end of the new year with a new year’s resolution unrealized. The truth is that few people actually manage to put their goals into practice as they would like.

In this article, we will discuss five practical tips that can help you achieve your new year’s goals and resolutions.

1. Have goals that can be achieved!

Having a plan that you can fulfill is essential. Never forget that changing habits takes time. Nobody wakes up fit without ever going to the gym, or becomes an athlete “out of the blue”. It takes consistency and training. Making your goals realistic will help you accomplish them. Also, allow yourself flexibility to adapt the initial plan, if necessary, but never abandon your goals.

2. Always look at the “glass half full”!

Focus more on nutritious foods you can include in your diet, rather than on foods to exclude. Food education will always be more effective by increasing variety. Rather than trying to eat what you don't like at all costs, strive to try new flavors. Allow yourself to enjoy new foods, especially fruits and vegetables.

3. Forget the mistakes of the past!

Previous deviations from your goals, or “cheat” weekends, are behind you. Seize the new opportunity that is in front of you and be patient with yourself.

4. Value changes in habits more than numbers on the scale!

Focus on change and persist. Aesthetic results, if you desire them, will come with time.

5. A goal should never start with a “no”!

When you create restrictions, your mind will automatically try to sabotage you and further increase the desire for what you have restricted. This error is very common. Many people set goals, such as ‘no sugar for 30 days’ or ‘no fast food for two weeks’. Though you may be able to accomplish the goal for a while, for the most part, it will fail in the long run.

6. Keeping an eye on the goals

Often, changing habits doesn’t happen simply because there is no real desire to change. As a result, the first step towards transformation is already compromised and planning is postponed. But, if you really want to change, start now! Don't be afraid or ashamed of starting with small steps; small steps will motivate you and bring you closer to your ultimate goal.

Also, don't forget that a doctor-approved physical exercise program is an integral part of a healthy lifestyle.
