Against the backdrop of Zambia’s rising youth unemployment and growing calls for economic empowerment, the Women’s Ministries Department of the Lusaka Conference hosted a transformative picnic and farm tour empowerment program at two local farms.

The event brought together 108 young Adventist women from across the conference, united by a shared desire to learn, grow, and serve. Organizers say the initiative underscored the importance of educating young women’s head, heart, and hands, developing intellectual capacity, nurturing spiritual depth, and equipping them with practical skills for sustainable livelihoods.

At Mungule Farm, the young women explored thriving tomato, corn, and banana fields, as well as cattle and goat rearing projects powered by solar energy systems. Many participants shared that the demonstration showcased how innovation and faith can combine to create lasting productivity, inspiring young women to pursue entrepreneurship with purpose and excellence.

At 10-Mile Farm, the group toured a thriving poultry enterprise that houses over 22,000 chickens, where self-produced feeds ensure efficiency and profitability. The visit left many women motivated to turn ideas into income-generating ventures.

During the program, presenter Njaame Kalililo spoke on starting and sustaining small and medium enterprises (SMEs). She emphasized goal clarity, strategic thinking, and the importance of preparation.

“Do not answer questions that have not been asked—anticipate needs and act with focus,” she said.

Deborah Zulu, Lusaka Conference Women’s Ministries director, called for women to learn from seasoned mentors and to continuously seek knowledge that transforms both home and community.

“When we educate the head, heart, and hands,” she said, “we build women who think deeply, love faithfully, and work diligently for their country and their God.”

Jenny Mwape, whose farms served as classrooms for the event, attributed her success to God’s sovereignty and encouraged women to view themselves as development partners, not merely supporters.

“When God is at the center,” she shared, “possibilities become endless.”

In her appeal to women across the conference’s 28 districts, Zulu envisioned a movement of women whose stories reflect faith, resilience, and achievement within the next five years.

“It’s time to make things happen,” she declared. “If others can do it, then we can do it too, with faith and collective determination.”

As Zambia continues to confront unemployment issues, leaders of the Lusaka Conference Women’s Ministries say they are determined to cultivate a generation of women who are spiritually grounded, intellectually empowered, and practically skilled; women who will transform their families, churches, and communities.

The Lusaka Conference serves as the administrative headquarters for about 310 Seventh-day Adventist churches across parts of Central and Lusaka provinces, including Mumbwa, Shibuyunji, and Chibombo; most of Chilanga District; the area of Kafue District west of Kafue town; and much of southwestern Lusaka District.
