In the midst of carrying out various activities motivated by the Caleb Mission project, young people from the Central Peruvian Conference traveled from Lima to Pucallpa in Peru to participate in Peru Projects, in order to join in the proclamation of the gospel in communities in the Peruvian jungle. The volunteers followed a planned route to reach the community of Puerto Islandia, located on the slopes of the Ucayali River, with transfers by plane and boat.
During their three-day stay in this area, the volunteers participated in worship programs and assisted Peru Projects in their daily missionary work. This included distributing books and Bibles to community members, preaching, and conducting Bible studies.
During these days, Dieter Gustavo Bruns, pastor and director of the Adventist Volunteer Service for South America, and Farí Choque Ortega, executive secretary of the South Peruvian Union, were present. They baptized eight people who decided to give their lives to God as a result of the volunteers' missionary work in the waters of the Ucayali River.
Evangelism in Jungle Communities
Peru Projects trains people willing to be volunteer missionaries through intensive training. During this training, participants learn more about Bible study, prayer, service, culture, environment, and dependence on God, motivating growth in different areas that will help them serve for a year in a community in the jungle.
The mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church is to call all people to become disciples of Jesus Christ by proclaiming the everlasting gospel and preparing the world for Christ's soon return. Preaching the gospel to more people through mission trips also strengthens and consolidates the discipleship process.
