Union Adventist University’s newest graduate program has been awarded a seven-year accreditation—the highest possible endorsement for a new Master of Occupational Therapy (OT) program.
Union recently introduced the only OT “bridge” program in the Midwest. “It is designed to build on the foundation that occupational therapy assistants already have,” says program director Emily Rumery. “The full-time pathway allows students to complete the master’s program in just two years. The part-time pathway extends that out by one additional year.”
Students like the hybrid format that blends online courses and two on-site lab experiences each semester.
“My responsibilities of being a mother, wife, taking care of my home, and also my duties at my work are priorities for me,” says Maria Reynosa Martinez from Grand Island, Nebraska, United States. “So, this program lets me be flexible and not neglect any other important roles in my life.”
Rosie Galbraith, a mother of seven from Hamilton, Missouri, appreciates the asynchronous schedule. “We have band concerts and sports and all the things [our kids attend], and so it made it easy for me to manage my schedule and do my homework when I need to do it,” she said.
“I’m happy about such a good report from the accreditors, but not surprised,” said Debbie Eno, vice president for academic administration. “Dr. Rumery and the faculty have done an impeccable job of setting up this bridge program. Our students couldn’t hope for a better learning experience on their way to getting a master’s degree.”
