On February 24, at 5 a.m., the whole country woke up. Bombs started exploding all over Ukraine.

“We just took two bags and documents and left the Kyiv area,” explained Sergei. He and his family come from Bogatyrskaya, near Kyiv. “We looked for a place to live and we found help at a reception point for refugees at the Romanian border. We were provided with shelter, food, and clothing.”

Humanitarian agencies receive Ukrainian refugees at the border and help them through the process of entering the European Union.

“The future remains unknown,” lamented Sergei. “I left my business in Ukraine; it is destroyed now.”

Sergei and his family were able to leave for Germany four hours after crossing the border. Their final destination will be Freiburg, Germany. Four days after crossing the border, Sergei received the news that his flat was destroyed during a violent bombardment near Kyiv.

Adrian Duré, producer and documentary filmmaker for Hope Media Europe, and his team were at the border between Ukraine and Romania during these recent days and produced a few stories of people entering into Europe and looking for safe places on our continent.

Duré and his team got a request from Hope Channel International to do a mini-series of short films focused on stories of people leaving the country.

This series is a part of the global Hope Channel and ADRA campaign called “Hope For Ukraine”.
