Seventh-day Adventists in Buenos Aires, Argentina’s capital city, have prepared a mobile laundry to assist COVID-19 victims housed in a temporary care facility. In recent days, there’s been an abrupt increase in infections, particularly in the metropolitan area.

Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) in Argentina has already deployed a mobile laundry service and disinfection station to assist those housed in the health center located in Tecnópolis, Buenos Aires.

"It is a job that has been in progress for more than eight weeks in conjunction with the Ministry of Health of the Province of Buenos Aires," says María José Amigo, head of Monitoring and Evaluation at ADRA.

The Seventh-day Adventist humanitarian agency is calling for volunteers willing to assist with laundry services. By washing and disinfecting clothes, it’s hoped the spread of the virus will slow, and that residents of the center will be more comfortable with clean laundry.

ADRA Argentina has four washing machines and four dryers in the center of Tecnópolis, in two mobile units. "Depending on the number of people housed there, we’ll enable volunteer shifts of an estimated two people two hours per day," Amigo said.

As for the task itself, “the volunteers will receive the clothes. Then they are washed, dried, folded, and returned. There will be minimal contact with the residents, and volunteers will have personal protective equipment (PPE). In addition, they will receive training in safety measures," she added.

The protocols were designed with specialists in infectious diseases, taking into account all the necessary precautions to avoid and minimize the risk of contagion.
