Seventh-day Adventists Bring Aid to Victims of Heavy Rains in Southern Chile

During the long weekend of June 23–26, 2023, heavy rains caused havoc in much of southern Chile, with the flooding of rivers, overflowing of canals, flooding in residential areas, among other calamities. Adventist Church volunteers from the Bio Bío and Ñuble regions organized to work and gather resources and donations to help the victims.

In Chillán, the capital of Ñuble, groups of volunteers from the Adventist University of Chile (UnACH), the Urban Help volunteer group (also from UnACH), and the Youth Ministry Zone joined together to help people in the Puente Ñuble and Las Mariposas sectors. In total, 40 volunteers carried out water containment, sediment cleaning, distribution of firewood, water, clothes, and food.

One of the beneficiaries of the volunteers' collaboration said, "Long live the young people! They have the strength, energy, enthusiasm, courage, and willingness to face anything. God bless them forever!” Donations are currently being received at the Cordillera Church, coordinated by Rodrigo Vargas, regional Youth Ministry director in the area. To make a contribution, please contact him at +569 3448 7920.

In the Los Ángeles region, another place that has also been affected by the rains, Adventist young people are already collecting donations to be delivered to families who have been affected by the weather front, especially in Saltos del Laja, Tucapel, and Santa Barbara. Currently, they are also calling those who wish to collaborate as volunteers to contact the leaders shown in the following image:

In the area, the floods are compounding the damage caused by forest fires this year, where the Adventist community has wanted to be present. Faced with this and other eventualities, the Adventist Church is always ready to help and serve those in need, just as Jesus did.
