The River Plate Sanitarium and Hospital (Sanatorio Adventista del Plata - SAP) has received accreditation from the Technical Institute for the Accreditation of Health Establishments, a leading organization in Argentina that evaluates and certifies healthcare quality.

The institution is recognized internationally through the International Society for Quality in Health Care.

The accreditation confirms that the sanatorium meets rigorous national and international standards related to quality of care and patient safety. Hospital leaders say the recognition reflects the ongoing work and collaboration of staff across the institution.

Independent evaluation

According to Dr. Edson Velozo, medical director of the institution, the process involved an external evaluation conducted by an independent organization.

“This is an external accreditation,” Velozo explained, “meaning that an independent body evaluates whether the institution meets specific standards related to quality of care, patient safety, and institutional management.”

He added that accreditation serves not only as recognition but also as a tool for continuous improvement.

“Being accredited is not just a formal recognition; we see it as a strategic tool that allows us to guarantee that the care we provide is aligned with good clinical and organizational practices,” he said.

Evidence-based protocols

The accreditation process requires the implementation of protocols based on scientific evidence.

This includes standardized procedures for medical care, administrative processes, and patient services—from front desk communication and health insurance management to nursing care and clinical practice.

According to Velozo, these protocols help strengthen patient safety systems within the institution.

“It strengthens the patient safety culture and significantly reduces adverse events that can occur in a healthcare institution.” He also emphasized that it creates a safer work environment for both staff and patients.

Transparency and trust for patients

The accreditation also aims to strengthen transparency and trust with patients.

“Our patients can rest assured that what we do is governed by the highest international standards,” he stated.

The endorsement obtained implies compliance with criteria in critical areas such as risk management, infection control, pharmacovigilance, equipment maintenance and ongoing training of human resources.

Strengthening the institution's mission

From an organizational perspective, the process fosters strategic planning and efficient resource management. “It requires us to document procedures, define responsibilities, monitor results, and consolidate reliable information systems, which then inform our strategic decisions,” explained the medical director. This directly impacts financial sustainability and the institution's reputation.

In an increasingly regulated and competitive healthcare environment, this accreditation has positioned the sanitarium as a benchmark in Argentina, among the few institutions to have achieved this standard.

For the Adventist institution, this achievement is a concrete expression of its identity and mission.

“It is a clear sign of commitment to excellence, patient safety, and social responsibility in healthcare, aligned with our vision: to serve, heal, and save,” concluded Dr. Edson Velozo.
