On July 6, 2025, during the 62nd General Conference (GC) Session in St. Louis, Missouri, delegates elected Richard Stephenson as an Associate Treasurer of the Seventh-day Adventist Church for the 2025–2030 quinquennium.
Stephenson first joined the General Conference Treasury team in 2022, where he has overseen technology strategy and operations. His work integrates digital systems to support financial stewardship while aligning with the Church’s mission.
He began denominational service in 1998 as chaplain and campus pastor at Madison Academy in Nashville, Tennessee. In 2005, he became Director of IT for the academy, later taking on the same role at the Kentucky-Tennessee Conference, where he emphasized educational technology across dozens of schools. He went on to serve for a decade at the Southern Union Conference before accepting a call in 2018 as Director of IT Services for the North American Division.
Known for his commitment to using technology to strengthen ministry, Stephenson combines innovation with a heart for mission and service.
The election is part of the broader decision-making process of the GC Session, where global delegates gather every five years for worship, prayer, and organizational leadership decisions.
