The homeless cared for by the regional office of the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA)  in Bahia, Brazil, have a care network capable of providing medical care, professional training, educational courses and hygiene procedures for the kitchen. This information appears in the report of the Public Ministry of Bahia, which inspected the conditions of the Institutional Attendance Units maintained by the Municipal Secretariat of Promotion to Combat Poverty (Semps), of the City of Salvador.

The inspection of the MP happened on February 9. Regarding the visits to the Barbalho and Garcia units, which are managed by ADRA's regional office in the state, through an agreement signed with the City Hall, acknowledged the proper function of services coordinated by the Adventist agency. 

According to a report on the MP's website, the report said "it was verified that the unit has established several partnerships with civil society entities and volunteers, to provide professional training and learning courses, as well as to have a staff of guarantee medical and psychosocial care. Kitchen hygiene facilities and procedures were also considered appropriate.” 

Partnership 

For the ADRA Brazil regional director for Bahia, Luiz Fernando, this recognition is only possible thanks to the support of the partnership with Semps. "Semps provides the financial support and gives the confidence and security to carry out this work," he says. 

According to promoter Letícia Baird, the situation of the units administered by ADRA Brazil indicates that "partnerships with civil society institutions should be encouraged and constitute more efficient alternatives for the execution of such public policies."

In the units of Barbalho and Garcia, the entity takes care of about 100 people in street situation, rotating, daily. The agreement with the City Hall of Salvador has been in place since October of 2015.
