Papua New Guinea Churches Celebrate First-Ever World Ambassador Day

Two churches in Papua New Guinea’s Kavieng district joined the global celebration of the Adventist Church’s first World Ambassador Day on April 5, 2025. The event marked a significant milestone in the Church’s new emphasis on engaging Ambassador-age youth—typically ages 16 to 21—through spiritual growth, leadership development, and community service.

Hosted by the God Tell club from Balgai church and the Maranatha club from Meltan church, the joint program spanned the entire Sabbath, culminating in a vibrant cultural celebration in the evening. The initiative was supported by local members and church leadership, with a total of 57 Ambassadors in attendance.

Guest speaker Jocabeth Pomaleau, former women’s and children’s ministries director for the Papua New Guinea Union Mission, delivered the Sabbath message under the theme “Live for Impact.”

Drawing from research she conducted at Pacific Adventist University, Pomaleau addressed the unique challenges faced by youth in this age group and emphasized their spiritual value and calling.

“You are an Ambassador for God’s kingdom,” she said. “If you choose to love God, the love of God will compel you to love others too.”

She concluded by distributing decision cards, encouraging attendees to commit to personal spiritual growth and embrace their role as Christ’s representatives.

The evening program featured six cultural groups presenting musical performances in their vernacular languages, accompanied by traditional instruments. Some groups dramatized the arrival of early Adventist missionaries to their regions, blending history with worship in a powerful expression of local faith heritage.

Several church leaders were present, including New Britain New Ireland Mission communication director Minister Lee Kotoveke, Papua New Guinea Union Mission IT systems administrator Clive Nawe, and district director Pastor Samson Bengin.

Reflecting on the event, Ambassador ministry staff member Noelyn Laklen expressed her gratitude.

“I’m grateful for how this first global celebration turned out,” she said. “It’s encouraging to see the department recognised alongside other youth ministries. We’re already looking forward to future gatherings.”
