Premiering Nov. 16, 2025, on ABC, “The Funny Thing About Sadness” is a one-hour television documentary that shares real stories of deep pain and how faith can transform that pain into purpose.

Faith For Today speaker/director Roy Ice hosts the special feature, joined by an unexpected mix of voices: actor Nikki DeLoach, comedian Drew Lynch, and actor and author Danny Trejo. Together, they open up about their most difficult experiences and how they discovered joy on the other side. Through laughter and honesty, each of them reveals that pain doesn’t have to define us … it can refine us.

In this documentary, Lynch reminds viewers that comedy isn’t about being perfect, it’s about being open and vulnerable. DeLoach and Trejo show that what once broke them is now the very thing God uses to help others heal. That’s the “funny thing” about sadness: without it, they might never have found their true purpose.

“We’re deeply grateful to partner with the Interfaith Broadcasting Commission (IBC) to bring ‘The Funny Thing About Sadness’ to ABC stations nationwide,” shared a Faith For Today spokesperson. “This isn’t just a broadcast deal … it’s yet another sign that God is guiding the course of Faith for Today and using this ministry for His purpose.”

“The Funny Thing About Sadness” begins airing Nov.16 on ABC and its affiliates. To find the schedule in your area:
• Visit ABC.com and click “Live TV” or check “Tonight’s TV Schedule.”
• Go to TVGuide.com and enter your ZIP code for local listings.
• Check your cable or satellite provider’s local channels guide or app (like DirecTV).

It’s Always Been Part of the Plan

As one longtime producer of Faith For Today once said, “Every time we launched a new program or added something new, it was never random. It was always intentional, part of a bigger vision.”

From the beginning, Faith For Today has been more than a media ministry; it’s been a mission to bring Christ into the mainstream, to meet people where they are and build bridges of connection and understanding.

With “The Funny Thing About Sadness,” that mission continues. This isn’t just entertainment — t’s a call to action. A reminder to a hurting world that there is still power in love, in hope, and in choosing faith.
