New ADRA Program in Russia Trains Volunteers in Hairdressing

On April 11, the Far Eastern branch of the ADRA Assistance Center launched a new educational initiative, “Social Hairdressing,” in Khabarovsk, Russia.

The project aims to equip participants with practical job skills while encouraging the use of those skills in community service.

Over the course of two months, project participants will learn the basics of hairdressing for free. Classes are held weekly under the guidance of professional hairdresser Alina Marchenko.

In preparation, ADRA purchased individual hairdressing kits for each project participant so that the future hairdressers can fully practice their skills.

The course will conclude with a qualifying exam, after which participants will have the opportunity to apply their training in a service setting.

Organizers plan for graduates to volunteer regularly at the “Kind Heart” center, offering free haircuts to individuals in need. The initiative is designed not only to prepare participants for employment but also to foster a culture of service and community support.

According to Project Director Sergei Lozovsky, ADRA in the Far East has regularly organized charitable and social initiatives for many years, helping low-income families, supporting the elderly, and implementing educational programs to develop skills that can serve as a foundation for future employment.

He says the "Social Hairdressing Salon" project marks another step in this ministry's development. The initiative is implemented with the participation and support of Seventh-day Adventist Church volunteers and takes place in the church building, which provides a warm and supportive atmosphere for learning and fellowship.
