For the fifth consecutive year, the Manaus Adventist Hospital is on the list of the best hospitals in Brazil, according to the annual ranking of Newsweek magazine. In 2025, the institution occupies the 23rd position nationally, rising two places compared to the previous year. Brazil has more than 6,000 hospitals, both public and private.

The recognition reflects the institution's commitment to excellence in care, based on a mission that began more than 90 years ago. The journey began on the rivers of the Amazon in 1931, with the Luzeiro medical missionary boats, which brought medical and spiritual assistance to isolated communities. Luzeiro I was led by North American missionaries Leo and Jessie Halliwell.

Commitment to Quality Care

The pioneering work of the Luzeiro boats gave rise to a legacy of healthcare that continues to this day. Over the years, the need for a permanent medical center in the region led to the founding of the Adventist Hospital of Manaus. Since then, the institution has maintained its purpose: to offer comprehensive care, combining technological advances, humanized care and the missionary values that marked its origins.

“This award reflects the institution’s continued dedication to offering the best through countless investment efforts, aiming to maintain high standards of safety and customer satisfaction. We believe that we are chosen for the mission of saving and we choose to do this with excellence to honor and glorify the name of God,” highlighted the institution’s CEO, Gideon Basílio.

Complementing this vision, the Technical Director, Dr. Francisco Mateus, highlighted the fundamental role of continuous training to guarantee excellence: “To this end, we supplement ourselves with a series of postgraduate programs, such as Medical Residency and Nursing Residency, in addition to certifications and implementation of international protocols in the care of our patients."

The Newsweek Rankings

The Newsweek ranking, prepared in partnership with the consulting firm Statista, evaluates criteria such as expert recommendations, patient satisfaction, and quality and innovation indicators. In 2025, Brazil will have more than 6,000 hospitals, both public and private. Being among the best in the country and reaching the global stage is an achievement that values the daily effort of the team at the Adventist Hospital of Manaus.

“Being recognized as one of the best hospitals in the country reaffirms the institution’s commitment to excellence, innovation and humanized care. This achievement reflects the commitment to caring for people’s physical, mental and spiritual well-being, in line with health principles,” highlighted Sérgio Alan, president of the Northwest Brazilian Union, the headquarters of the Adventist Church for the states of Acre, Rondônia, Roraima and Amazonas. “This strengthens the community’s confidence in the Adventist Church’s ability to provide services that promote comprehensive health in Jesus,” he concluded.

The story that began with speedboats on the Amazon rivers continues to inspire hospital professionals, who seek to keep alive the spirit of service that began in the region's waters.
