Wahroonga Adventist School in Sydney, New South Wales, recently served up a special breakfast event, raising almost USD$800 (A$1200) for Cancer Council’s Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea.
The Biggest Morning Tea is a community event that raises essential funds to support those affected by cancer. It encourages people to host an event with friends, family, colleagues, or community members.
The school’s Big Breakfast fundraiser was open to all students of all grades, along with their family members who were encouraged to participate and enjoy the morning to support the cause.
“It takes a village to raise a child, and the Big Breakfast demonstrated how our Adventist schools are thriving Christ-centred learning communities that enable every child to flourish,” Julia Heise, Wahroonga Adventist School principal, said.
Led by the student representative council, the students and teachers provided an array of breakfast options. Chocolate and plain croissants, a variety of freshly baked muffins, pancakes with sprinkles, maple syrup, chocolate sauce, hot chocolates with marshmallows, and tea were some of the treats available.
“During the Big Breakfast, many parents commented on the sense of community and how the support of the whole child was very apparent in the school,” Georgia Ah-You, primary school student representative council coordinator, said. “The fact that staff and students were working so harmoniously and joyfully alongside each other in serving parents was noted,” she added.
Exceeding their initial goal by A$200, the money raised by the school will go towards cancer research, support for patients, and prevention campaigns.
This was Wahroonga Adventist School’s second year of running the event as a Big Breakfast fundraiser.
