In 2024, Friedensau Adventist University will mark a significant milestone, celebrating 125 years of educational service. To commemorate this anniversary, the university will host a series of special events on Saturday, October 19, 2024.

The day will begin with a church service, which will feature a sermon by Dr. Lisa Beardsley-Hardy, Head of the Department of Education at the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. An anniversary ceremony will also take place, with a keynote address delivered by Professor Dr. Jan-Hendrik Olbertz, Former Minister of Culture of Saxony-Anhalt. A standing reception will follow the ceremony, allowing attendees to socialize and reflect on the university's rich history.

Founded in 1899 as the "Industry and Mission School," Friedensau Adventist University began with just seven students in a repurposed mill along the Ihle River. Over the years, it has grown into an internationally recognized institution, offering a wide range of programs in theology and social work. The university's mission remains grounded in providing whole-person education, rooted in Christian values, to prepare graduates for meaningful service in their communities.

Over the decades, Friedensau Adventist University has navigated numerous historical challenges while remaining steadfast in its commitment to holistic education. During both World Wars, the university’s buildings were repurposed as military hospitals, temporarily halting its educational mission. However, through the resilience of its community and support from local leaders, the institution resumed its operations after each conflict. In 1990, following the reunification of Germany, Friedensau gained state accreditation, cementing its role as a leading center for theological and social sciences education within the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Today, the university's campus is home to students and faculty from over 40 nations, embodying its dedication to interculturality and equal opportunities. Friedensau’s programs are designed not only to provide academic excellence but also to instill a sense of social responsibility and ethical leadership. With a strong emphasis on research, teaching, and community, the university integrates Christian ethics into its curriculum, ensuring that graduates are well-equipped for both professional success and meaningful contributions to society.

As Friedensau Adventist University celebrates its 125th anniversary, it continues to expand its global reach through partnerships and research collaborations. The anniversary events will provide an opportunity for alumni, students, and faculty to reflect on the university’s rich history and its enduring mission to serve the church and broader community. Looking ahead, Friedensau remains committed to fostering an environment where faith, education, and service are intertwined for the betterment of individuals and society as a whole.
