A fire at Avondale School in Cooranbong, New South Wales (NSW), Australia, on January 21, 2025, destroyed Zaida House, an old building used for storage on the edge of the school property, with no impact on students, staff, or classrooms.

Emergency services were called to the scene, where crews found the structure fully engulfed in flames. Ten fire trucks responded, with firefighters working to contain the blaze and protect a neighbouring building. Authorities later described the fire as suspicious, and the scene was handed over to police for investigation.

Fire and rescue crews from several brigades, along with Fire and Rescue NSW, NSW Police, NSW Ambulance and Ausgrid, were involved in the response. The building was completely destroyed.

In a statement on social media, Avondale School said the fire was quickly contained and extinguished, and confirmed the school remains operational as normal.

“We wish to inform you that a fire occurred this evening in an old building on the edge of the school property,” the school said. “There was no impact to students, staff, or other school buildings.”

Police investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
