Euro-Asia Division Collects Donations for Flood Victims in Russia

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, more than 3,000 people were evacuated from Orsk, Russia.

On April 5, 2024, water flooded Orsk, Russia, on the left bank of the Ural River due to a spring flood and dam break. Residential buildings, churches, and medical institutions were in the flood zone. According to the authorities, villages nearby the city were also in the flood zone. By April 9, more than 7,000 residential buildings remained in the flood zone, according to the mayor of Orsk. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, more than 3,000 people were evacuated from the city. In addition, the water element caused damage in the Kazakhstan region.

Currently, flood victims have expressed their need for basic necessities such as drinking water, hygiene kits, and clothing, as well as assistance in restoring damaged homes.

ADRA Assistance Center

Together with the Seventh-day Adventist Christian Church, the ADRA Assistance Center immediately responded to the emergency situation and has already begun to provide assistance to victims. The ADRA disaster response team has been in the emergency area since the onset of the flood, assessing the situation and collaborating with local authorities. In Orsk, ADRA immediately organized the provision of drinking and technical water to those in need, as well as the distribution of clothing to those who asked for help.

In addition, ADRA has begun to collect donations throughout the Euro-Asian Division to help people affected by floods in Russia and Kazakhstan. Funds raised will help purchase food, water, personal hygiene items, and building materials for the repair of private buildings and houses of worship for the victims.
