Creation Sabbath Marks 15 Years with Million-Tree Campaign

This year marks the 15th anniversary of Creation Sabbath, a global celebration recognizing God as Creator.

To mark the occasion, students, teachers, and churches across the East-Central Africa Division (ECD) launched an ambitious tree-planting campaign aimed at planting one million trees by October 26, 2025.

The initiative began when Jane Muinde, a biology PhD student at Loma Linda University, first learned about Creation Sabbath during a field trip led by Dr. Timothy Standish from the Department of Earth and Biological Sciences.

Inspired by the concept of a dedicated day to honor creation, Muinde developed the idea of an International Creation Club and proposed a tree-planting campaign.

In just four months, the project grew into a regional movement. According to ECD Education Director Dr. Andrew Mutero, 705 Adventist schools and churches have registered to participate.

Local science teachers and university instructors have organized Creation Clubs to promote environmental stewardship, with many schools establishing “Garden of Eden” projects on their campuses.

“I am amazed by the excitement and energy that this campaign generated in our region”, shared Andrew Mutero, the ECD director of Education. “This celebration was memorable and bore witness that God is indeed the creator of heaven and earth.”

Organizers say the enthusiasm has been strong enough to make the campaign an annual event. Plans are underway to continue marking Creation Sabbath each year with projects that highlight care for the environment and recognition of God as Creator.

Participants and interested groups can register and learn more about Creation Sabbath at creationsabbath.net. The original article was published on the Creation Sabbath website. Join the ANN WhatsApp Channel for the latest Adventist news.
