On July 9, 2025 at the 62nd General Conference Session, the Biblical Research Institute (BRI) shared a video presentation with delegates about the work they are accomplishing. 

Before the video began, Audrey Andersson, vice president of the GC and chair of the morning meeting, expressed her gratitude to the BRI.

“The GC has a very well kept secret, and it’s called the BRI,” Andersson said. “If you haven’t seen their booth [referring to the exhibit booth inside the exhibition hall], you need to go.” 

The BRI was officially established in 1975, though its history began in 1943 under the name “Defense Literature Committee.” It was created to assist GC leadership in thoughtfully addressing the theological issues confronting the church. 

Over the past 50 years, the BRI aimed to strengthen the church through publications that advance the mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Gerhard Pfandl, former BRI associate director, highlighted the publication Sola Scriptura: Authority, Reliability, and Relevance of the Bible. 

“The bottom line of this book is that the Bible is the supreme authority in all matters of faith and practice for all Christians,” Pfandl said. 

Alberto Timm, associate director of BRI, shared his thoughts on the publication Revisiting the Trinity, on a topic of contention across Protestant denominations, including the Adventist Church. 

“Addressing one of the most asked theological questions, this two-volume work affirms the biblical foundation of the Trinity,” Timm said. 

Recognizing that the world is technologically driven, Keldie Paroschi, assistant director of the BRI, highlighted the publication, Technology, Ethics, and the Future: Navigating the Digital Age with a Biblical Focus. 

“Our goal with this publication is to reflect on biblical principles on engaging with technology, while staying faithful to Jesus and our mission as a church,” Paroschi said.

Concluding the report was Frank Hasel, associate director of the BRI, who highlighted the BRI newsletter.

“Every Seventh-day Adventist pastor, teacher, administrator, and interested church member wanting to stay up to date with current issues in the Seventh-day Adventist Church should subscribe to our newsletter,” Hasel said.
