AWR Annual Offering Day Calls the Adventist Church to Action Across South Africa

"In a world where sin is scientific and rumors of war have become reality; the gospel must be preached to the ends of the earth."

These were the words of Southern Africa-Indian Ocean Division (SID) Communication Director Pako Mokgwane, delivered at Edenvale Seventh-day Adventist Church during the Adventist World Radio (AWR) annual offering day.

Broadcasting live on AWR SIDMEDIA, Mokgwane anchored his message in Matthew 28:18–20, calling the Adventist Church back to the Great Commission. He urged members to go beyond the walls of the church, emphasizing that door-to-door evangelism remains essential as the world awaits the soon return of Jesus.

"Jesus is coming again, and we have global errands to run." Expanding on verse 20, Mokgwane reminded the congregation that Christ's presence is not confined to the church walls; it extends into every corner of their daily lives, including social media.

"Christ is with you; every post you make, Christ is with you. Our social media accounts must reflect Christ," he charged both the congregation and AWR listeners tuned in across the region.

The service concluded with an appeal, during which seven individuals expressed a desire to begin baptismal classes.

Programs highlight media ministry

As part of the day’s activities, Southern Africa Union communication director Thulani Mkhize led the Sabbath School program, highlighting the work of AWR and encouraging members to support the ministry through participation and contributions.

The live broadcast also included a panel discussion led by AWR SIDMEDIA host Dereck Viriri. Participants discussed the relevance of mission in contemporary contexts and explored how media tools can support evangelistic efforts.

Outreach across the region

Additional programs were held in other locations across the region.

At Pioneer Seventh-day Adventist Church in Pretoria, SIDMEDIA technical manager Noel Sibanda demonstrated how radio broadcasts are produced, providing insight into the technical aspects of the ministry.

In Zimbabwe, AWR presenter Malven Makichi visited the Harare Chinese Mission, where she shared the impact of radio ministry and its role in reaching diverse communities. Local church leaders emphasized the importance of outreach among Chinese nationals living in Harare.

Focus on mission

Church leaders said the AWR offering day served as a reminder of the church’s ongoing mission to share the gospel through both traditional and digital platforms.

They noted that media ministries continue to expand opportunities for outreach, helping to connect with audiences across different regions and cultural contexts.
