More than 500 volunteers from the Seventh-day Adventist Church joined local authorities and health workers in the Villa El Salvador district in Lima, Peru, for a campaign to improve public spaces and raise awareness about environmental care.

The initiative, called “More Hope, More Green: Restoring Your Hospital,” was organized in partnership with the Villa El Salvador Emergency Hospital, the District Municipality, and the Lima Parks Service. Activities focused on restoring the hospital’s outdoor areas and promoting community responsibility for shared spaces.

Volunteers cleared 250 kilos of weeds, planted 108 shrubs and 32 trees, and applied fertilizer in 140 planting holes. More than 9,000 liters of water were used to irrigate the newly planted areas. In addition, 100 square meters of graffiti-covered walls were cleaned, and 10 gallons of paint were donated to refresh the hospital’s exterior.

Participants included Adventist youth, children, and families involved in Pathfinder and Adventurer clubs, as well as members of the church’s volunteer service programs.

The activity formed part of the Adventist Church’s 2025 Spring campaign, which includes tree-planting efforts in several parts of Lima.

“We have a group of young people, adolescents, and children who are concerned about the environment,” said Henry Flores, youth ministries leader for the church’s Southern Peru region. “They remind us that trees are a source of clean air and hope for all.”

Church leaders explained that the campaign also reflects the Adventist belief in caring for creation as part of their Christian faith. Gerson Guzmán, youth ministry coordinator in South Lima, said the project aimed to “serve the community and provide hope through practical actions.”

Henry Flores, leader of the Southern Peruvian Union Youth Ministry, said, “We have a group of young people, adolescents, and children in our society who are concerned about the environment. They inspire us to care for what God has given us, reminding us that trees are a source of clean air and hope for all. As Christians, we are called to be good stewards of creation.”
