Adventist University Nursing Teams Serve Communities in Honduras and Thailand

The effort focused on vulnerable families, older adults, and children, combining medical support with community outreach.

Students and faculty from the Nursing program at the River Plate Adventist University (Universidad Adventista del Plata, UAP) in Argentina provided temporary, free medical care through health brigades, home visits, educational activities, and spiritual support in Honduras and Thailand from December 12 to 29, 2025.

The outreach took place in coordination with Students for International Mission Service (SIMS) at Loma Linda University Health and focused on communities with limited access to basic services. Organizers said that the approach combined primary health care, prevention, health education, emotional support, and spiritual guidance, emphasizing a holistic view of care.

In Honduras, the UAP Nursing team participated in health fairs and community outreach programs in rural and urban areas, including communities in Santa Bárbara and low-income neighborhoods in the city. There, they provided basic checkups, guidance on healthy habits, and listening sessions, as well as recreational activities and support for children.

Organizers highlighted a visit to the Pan American Health Service (PAHS) operations center, which includes a Child Nutrition Center and a Children’s Home, where the group spent time with children and provided emotional and spiritual support.

Meanwhile, in Thailand, volunteers provided clinical care, conducted home visits, and distributed food to families in need, organizers reported. The team also supported children in orphanages and offered health education programs for adults and children focused on self-care and community well-being.

Beyond the immediate impact on the communities served, these experiences represented a key educational opportunity for the students, integrating academic knowledge with a vocation for service, leaders said.

Through these initiatives, UAP leaders say they are committed to providing students with an education that unites academic excellence, faith, and service, bringing hope to where it is most needed.
