During September, schools of the Julián Ocampo Foundation, part of the Adventist education system in southern Chile, celebrated Bible Month with a variety of cultural and spiritual programs.

The activities included parades, recitals, exhibitions, and dramatizations such as a reenactment of Noah’s Ark. Students and teachers highlighted the Bible’s role as a foundation of Adventist education.

One of the commemorations is September 26, 1569, the day the first complete Spanish translation of the Bible was printed in Basel, Switzerland. Known as the “Bear Bible,” by Casiodoro de Reina, its name derives from the cover image of a bear eating honey from a honeycomb. This edition laid the foundation for the Reina-Valera version, which remains one of the most widely read translations among Spanish speakers.

The celebrations extended across Adventist schools from Angol to Punta Arenas, with the exception of Puerto Montt, where events took place in August. In some locations, students and families also participated in exhibitions of ancient and modern Bibles, themed contests, and reflection spaces designed to encourage greater engagement with the Scriptures.

An Educational and Spiritual Legacy

The Bible has been a central pillar of Adventist education since its origins, guiding teachers and students in the development of values. Following the inspiration of Adventist pioneers like Ellen G. White, it remains an essential reference in the educational mission of the Adventist Church, guiding new generations toward principles that transcend the classroom.

With these commemorations, Adventist Education in southern Chile sought to highlight the impact of the Holy Scriptures on society, on the formation of new generations, and on the foundation of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. All of this, while recognizing the Bible as a guide where God demonstrates his unconditional love for humanity.
