Adventist Church in Sarawak Launches Impact Sarawak Campaign, Leading to Over 50 Baptisms

The promise of Jesus’ return has long been a source of hope for believers, offering renewal and redemption. His coming symbolizes the ultimate restoration of peace, justice, and love in a world often filled with turmoil. The Nurture, Discipleship, Retention—Integrated Evangelism Lifestyle (NDR-IEL) department actively implemented the Impact Sarawak program, partnering with local churches for a coordinated evangelistic effort.

From September 3-7, 2024, the Kuching Rural, Bau, and Lundu Districts held an evangelistic series as part of this campaign. The series united 10 churches: Bijuray, Kaman, Belimbin, Skibang, Simpah Bokah, Siluk, Selampit, Sg Pinang, Bumbok, and Semaba, strengthening the spirit of mission across these communities.

Through the Impact Sarawak campaign, a movement of faith and transformation took place, leaders say. More than 50 individuals were baptized, each making a profound commitment to a new life in Christ.

In the broader context of mission, Malaysia’s population stands at 34.5 million, with just 61,000 Seventh-day Adventist members—resulting in a ratio of 1 Adventist for every 565 people. Sarawak, with a population of 2.47 million, has a higher concentration of Adventists, with 21,855 members, yielding a ratio of 1 member per 113 people. These statistics underscore the vital importance of continued evangelism and outreach efforts, as there remains a vast mission field to be reached with the message of Jesus’ soon return. The Impact Sarawak campaign is a key part of that mission, igniting a spark of faith and growth within the region.

The Impact Sarawak initiative aims to bring more people to Jesus and prepare them for His second coming. Beyond evangelism, it seeks to strengthen the church’s spiritual foundation, ensuring a deeper connection to Christ.

A central goal of the program is to “reach in.” Engaging and nurturing current church members while equipping them to become effective disciplemakers. By enhancing their spiritual development and providing necessary tools and training, the church is empowering its members to actively engage in ministry. This strategic approach supports the fulfillment of the Great Commission by making disciples of all nations.

Additionally, the campaign is dedicated to reconnecting with individuals who have disengaged from the church. It focuses on extending compassion and support, facilitating their reintegration into the church community, and encouraging their spiritual growth. Further, it helps church members to take an active role in reaching out to fellow believers, acknowledging that spiritual restoration is a collaborative effort.

Semilee Tajau, president of the Adventist Church in Sarawak, stated that through these comprehensive efforts, the campaign promotes the building of a stronger, more spiritually mature church that is both inwardly nurtured and outwardly focused, preparing all for the second coming of Christ.
